Uses
Admix retarder is used in bulk concrete production in hot areas, when the concrete is transported for a long time or the setting time is increased, and generally when it is necessary to increase the setting time of the concrete.
Description
This material slows down the hydration process by delaying the setting of the cement, thereby reducing the internal temperature of the concrete caused by the hydration process. Therefore, it is suitable for hot weather as well as for bulky concrete. Since these types of retarders slow down the hydration effect in the early hours, they cause some decrease in strength, which is normal, and as the age of the concrete increases, its strength increases until it reaches an acceptable level.
Advantages
- It prevents cracking and shrinkage of concrete.
- It is suitable for pouring concrete in hot weather as it lowers the internal temperature of the concrete.
- It is suitable for setting delay and concrete transport.
Recommended Dosage
The exact amount of use depends on the materials available, the type and amount of cement, the ambient temperature, the intensity of the sun and the amount and intensity of the wind. However, an amount of between 0.04 and 0.1 percent by weight of cement is recommended.
Due to the sensitivity of this substance, weighing work must be done carefully. If more than the allowable amount of this substance is given, the setting of the concrete may be delayed for several days, causing a sharp decrease in initial resistance.
Application
Add the calculated amount of retarder to the concrete at the same time as the water and let the mixing continue for 2-3 minutes.
